Upper School

7th-12th grades

At GMA we strive to make our mastery learning restful, memorable, pertinent and permanent.  Our small class sizes allow our upper school students to receive personalized attention and experience many opportunities to lead Socratic discussions, and gain confidence in their ability to communicate their opinions, respond to questions, and persuade others.

In addition to our academics, students have opportunities to participate in Youth in Government, Mock Trial, artistic pursuits, mentorship, and outreach, enabling them to use their wisdom and gifts in service, for the glory of Christ.

Curriculum

Upper English, Logic and Rhetoric

English mastery in reading, writing, and speaking is the mark of an educated person. Through reading and discussing the great books and poetry writing according to the Classical Composition methodology, and instruction in logic and rhetoric GMA students work towards mastery of the English language in comprehension and communication.

Upper History

Our history curriculum combines the classical approach to teaching history with the use of “living books” written by great authors focused on one particular topic. We combine living books with history spines that teach the overall flow of history. Using the classical approach, we teach students to apply literature to their understanding of history–which helps them think critically about both.

Upper Math

Utilizing the Art of Problem Solving curriculum, a rigorous, high-quality math curriculum, to discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation. We help students develop the problem-solving skills they need to confidently tackle challenging problems—and not only in mathematics.

Upper Science

At GMA we offer robust lab-based science classes taught from a Christian worldview.  Our students come to learn that science and religion are not at odds, but both point to the truth of God the creator.  We teach our students what science is and isn't, how to critically look at the claims of the scientific community and to be able to defend the bible with science.  The heavens truly do declare the glory of God.  His character is written all over creation.
